On the Bonnie, Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond

We made it to Scotland! We drove into the country on Friday and then walked an 8-mile trail to reach our hostel. Did I mention that our hostel is right on the edge of Loch Lomond!?!?! The views are incredible! Here are just a few pictures of the loch.

This is our hostel, which looks like a gingerbread house perched on the edge of this beautiful blue loch.

Yesterday we hiked to the summit of Ben Lomond, a peak near to our hostel. We hiked up into the clouds and got rained on again, but it was still a neat hike with some great views.
Here's a picture of my professor's cute son at the summit. He was so proud of himself for making it to the top! :)
Loch Lomond! It is WAY bigger than I though it would be! It is the largest lake in Great Britain and is 21 miles long.
We get to spend the entirety of this beautiful Sunday here at the hostel and on the lake. Here are some of us enjoying this day of rest.
What a view from our couch in the hostel!

Wishing a Happy Father's Day to my amazing dad and all the other fathers out there who might be reading today. I sure love you all and am grateful for you and all that you do!

Edinburgh

We're in Edinburgh! Here is the Scott monument, honoring Scottish author Walter Scott. It is the largest monument to a writer in the world.  Edinburgh castle!  How Scottish... I love it! :) We went to an adorable little tea shop and had fruit tea, scones, and clotted cream! It was so yummy!  This is the tea shop.  Today we hiked King Arthur's seat, which is a big hill/ridge just outside of the city. A view of the city from the top of King Arthur's Seat. This is the "birthplace" of Harry Potter because it is the cafe where JK Rowling wrote the first Harry Potter book. Look at this awesome Scottish hat!!!!! Love to you all!

A Rocky Weekend Recap

We saw Stonehenge today! But first, a quick recap of the "rocky" weekend... :)  On Friday we visited Jane Austen's home in Crawton, which was awesome!   Here's a view of the house... And Jane's very own writing desk!!!!! I felt much more in the spirit of Austen when I wore this bonnet. Afterwards, we got to explore the ruins of a castle called Old Serum, pictured here. The fields around the ruins were filled with wildflowers. The hostel where we are staying is inside this old house, which is pretty neat!  We hiked 2 miles to church on Sunday, and got this awesome view on our way there. Here's another beautiful sight that we saw on our trek to church. And, last but not least, Stonehenge!!! It was a tad windy. :) Here's a picture of our whole group!  We also got to hike and visit this large Neolithic burial mound, as well as a tomb pictured below.  These rocks mark the entrance to the ...

Punting on the Thames

Today we were in Oxford! We went to a pub called The Three Goat Heads for dinner, and I tried liver. :) But first, a few group pictures that I've missed from past days. This is from last Sunday in Bath. This is our whole group at the Cliffs of Dover. This is our classroom. :) We stopped along the trail in Cornwall to have a class and do some travel writing. A fun view from Stourhead.  And here's Oxford!  A pic of some of our group in the punting boats.  One of the girls learning how to use the punting pole.  An Oxford bridge.  Some of the cool buildings in Oxford. This is the pub where J.R.R. Tolkien and C.S. Lewis would meet and talk about their books together. That's all from Oxford. Love you all!
